I just finished reading The Hunger Games. In the end, Katniss & Peeta end up killing off Cato, the last tribute besides them, with the help of mutant wolves. After he dies, the new rule of two tributes being able to win is changed once again, & it is said only one can win. However, Katniss knows they can outsmart the Capitol in some way. She takes the poisonous berries Peeta had collected & they put them in their mouths just barely before the people in the Capitol change there minds again, making sure they have a victor, or in this case: victorS, instead of not having one at all. At the ceremonies, Peeta & Katniss continue the role of true love. They play it out well enough as not to get in trouble for what they did. But in the end of the story, Katniss slips up & admits it was part of an act being in love with Peeta, while he really had been in love with her. We see an awkwardness & the readers are left on a cliff-hanger when Katniss & Peeta walk off holding hands, as she wonders when she will let go
This book is part of a triology. So, what will happen with Katniss being in the middle of Peeta & Gale? Will she fall in love with one of them?

"The Victor"
In Part 3 of the book, the games start to get very interesting. Katniss's ally Rue has died. Soon she hears of a new rule in the games- two people can win the games if they are from the district. Katniss imediately decides to find Peeta & team up. She finds him the next day disguised in the mud & very hurt/weak. She drags him out & makes sure he is safe & cleaned. Next, she finds a cave for them to stay in. As the days go by, the romance between Katniss & Peeta becomes stronger, but there's always the thought that it's just for sponsors in the back of Katniss's mind. Peeta is very sick & a feast is offered to the tributes. Katniss manages to get a medicine from Haymitch to knock Peeta out so she can sneak away to the feast. There, Clove dies & Katniss is spared by Thresh. Him & Cato are still alive as well as Foxface. Katniss gets the medicine Peeta needs to get better at the feast & sneaks away without being killed.
Will Cato come after Peeta & Katniss now that Clove is dead?

Rue
In chapter 14, Katniss finds an unlikely ally in her tree; the young mysterious girl Rue. Katniss decides to become allies with her since she's cunning & also reminds her of her sister Prim. The two become a strong pair for a while, even managing to break up a large team of career tributes. Katniss also finds that Peeta has teamed up with them. At one point however, Katniss & Rue are out hunting & a career tribute kills Rue. Katniss also kills that tribute with her bow & arrow. She becomes greatly saddened when Rue dies.
So, will Katniss be able to outlast the others without her ally Rue? Why or why not?

The Games approaching
In the part of the book: The Games we find out that Peeta has feelings for Katniss. She doesn't make much of it but thinks its sweet how he announced it on television. Later, she ends up shoving him causing him to fall and hurt his hand. Haymitch wanted them to be "star crossed lovers" as an act for the games to help them get sponsored. Even though Katniss objects, she recieves some helpful advice from Haymitch: don't die. During the night before the games there seems to be romantic tension between Katniss and Peeta when they talk to eachother in the middle of the night. She goes into great description about his blue eyes being locked on hers.
Will there be some kind of romance or partnership between Katniss & Peeta during the games?

The Tributes
In chapter 4, there starts to be somewhat of a confusing relationship between Katniss and her fellow tribute Peeta. They begin the journey on a train to the city of Panem; a high-tech and shining place where eveyone is wealthier and happier. They meet their coach: a drunk past District 12 tribute named Haymitch and some other colorful characters. Haymitch is usually pretty intoxicated to fucntion very well, but when he and Peeta get into a fight one morning during breakfeast, it scares Katniss. She begins to realize that Peeta may be kind, but all in all he is trying to do his best to kill anyone-including her. So, who is Peeta REALLY; the sweet boy who gave Katniss bread long ago, or the desperate fighter trying to kill her?

Chapters 1&2
A couple of days ago, I began reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. So far the readers have been introduced to the main character- Katniss Everdeen. Katniss may be a girl, but she is by no means girly. She must be tough because she must provide her family with food, which is hard since the story takes place in a post apocalypse setting where food must be found in the wild by hunting and gathering, and by the means of trade. Katniss's father died when she was young and her mother is somehow disabled from doing much, I assume she is depressed from her husband's death in a mine explosion. Katniss also has a younger sister name Prim who is twelve years old and much girlier than her. Her best friend and hunting partner's name is Gale.He is eighteen years old; two years older than Katniss, but they are very close.
Every year, each district much randomly choose a boy and girl ages twelve to eighteen to compete in a death match called "The Hunger Games". This year, Katniss's sister Prim is chosen and is only twelve. Katniss volunteers herself to take her sister's place because she cannot bare to see her sister possibly killed on television(The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event). For some reason, this kind of sacrifice for a loved one doesn't usually happen and its very strange to the people watching. Why has this idea of selflessness disappeared? And how far can selflessness go in Katniss's favor?
